Research participation

Know what you are agreeing to.

A first conversation helps us understand whether the research is relevant to your school.

It does not commit you to a programme, product, payment or recorded interview.

Before an interview

Before a research interview begins, we will explain why we are speaking with you, what we would like to discuss, how the information may be used, whether we would like to record the conversation, how external transcription may be used where relevant, and how long relevant records are expected to be kept.

You can ask questions before deciding whether to continue.

Your choices are separate

  • Taking part in the interview.
  • Allowing an audio recording.
  • Allowing a quotation to be used.
  • Allowing your name or school to be identified.

Agreeing to one choice does not automatically mean agreeing to the others.

Who takes part

The current research is intended for adult school owners, proprietors, administrators and leaders.

It is not research involving pupils as participants.

What we ask about

Our research concerns the institution: how it operates, what is working, what keeps demanding attention, what has already been tried and what the school hopes to become.

We do not ask participants to send pupil records through public contact channels.

Please do not provide confidential pupil information unless there is a clear, agreed and appropriate reason for doing so.

Recording, transcription and notes

Nothing is audio recorded without permission.

Where recording is declined, we may ask permission to take written notes instead.

Where an audio recording is made, an AI-assisted transcription service may be used to produce a written transcript. Participants will be told where this is relevant.

You can ask to pause or end a conversation at any time.

Confidentiality and publication

Taking part does not give QUINZERIAN permission to publicly identify you or your school.

Identifiable information, quotations or recordings will not be published with your identity attached unless you have given clear permission for that use.

Where findings are anonymised, we will take reasonable steps to remove or avoid details that could reasonably identify you or your school.

How we handle what we learn

We aim to distinguish between what has been directly observed, what participants have reported, what remains uncertain, and any conclusions or recommendations that may later be developed.

Research participation does not guarantee that QUINZERIAN will recommend a particular solution, programme or pilot.

Retention and withdrawal

Raw audio recordings will be kept for up to 12 months and then deleted.

Research notes and transcripts may be retained while they are needed for the research.

Anonymised research material may be retained for longer where it remains useful for legitimate research purposes.

You may choose to stop participating.

Before the interview, we will explain the withdrawal point that applies to the research.

Information that has already been irreversibly anonymised or combined into findings that can no longer be separated may no longer be capable of being withdrawn.

Questions or concerns

You can ask questions before or during the research.
